From Public to Policy: The Role of Political Parties
-Yug Shah
Introduction
Political parties serve as a bridge between the general public and the government. They function as linkage institutions and help voice the people's wants. They connect citizens' voices to policy-making processes, such as making new laws and stuff. This betters the whole democratic overall thingy you know?
Democratic Party
The Democratic Party is a major party in the United States Government. Their core beliefs include advocating for social justice, expanding access to healthcare, supporting environmental protection, and promoting economic equality. In contrast to the Republican Party, the Democratic Party advocates for a more active role for government solving social and economic issues. I chose to write about the Republican Party because I could easily contrast it with the Republican Party.
Climate Change
The Democratic Party firmly believes that climate change is an urgent global crisis requiring immediate attention. For example, climate change is caused by rising greenhouse gas emissions, and that threatens ecosystems and public safety. They support reducing emissions, transitioning to renewable energy, and rejoining international agreements like the Paris Climate Accord. The party influences public opinion by presenting solutions that could boost innovation and create jobs for future generations.
Republican Party
The Republican Party is also a major political party in the United States. It supports policies like lowering taxes, cutting regulations, and promoting traditional social values. Unlike the Democratic Party, this party prefer smaller government and more personal freedom when it comes to solving problems. I decided to write about the Republican Party because they were also easily contrastable to the Democratic Party.
Taxation
The Republican Party supports lower taxes because it believes in smaller government and economic freedom. Republicans argue that cutting taxes helps the economy grow, encourages people to invest, and lets individuals keep more of the money they’ve worked hard to earn. They’re concerned that high taxes take away financial independence from Americans. By focusing on tax cuts, the party connects with voters who want to keep more of their money and avoid paying higher taxes.
